To monitor and explore critical matters of international peace and security

To provide a platform for global dialogue

To bridge the gap between the decisions made on the international stage and the people affected by them

To raise public awareness and education on international decision-making on issues of peace and security

To increase accountability in and transparency of decision-making on the international stage

GFPS is an online forum where people from around the world can interact with prominent experts and each other on the most pressing legal and policy challenges to international peace and security raised at the United Nations (UN) Security Council and other related regional institutions.

The establishment of the Forum in the summer of 2007 was inspired by the new global masters of law program launched by New York University and the National University of Singapore called NYU@NUS. The Forum represents the initiative of 30 students in this program from all six continents of the world.

In its initial stages, the Forum will focus on the most controversial issues addressed at the United Nations Security Council and those that have failed, for one reason or another, to make it onto the Council's agenda. The Forum features articles, critical responses, and live debates.

GFPS membership is open to everyone. From North, Central and South America, Africa, Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Asia, New Zealand and Australia, members of the Forum will include politicians, civil servants, NGO activists, law and political science professors and students, legal practitioners, military and security experts, and religious leaders, as well as any other interested individuals. To help establish a broad range of perspectives and global representation on the Forum, a variety of experts and students have initially been encouraged to join and contribute by invitation. In turn, those members can invite their colleagues to join wherever they are.
